Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 78 Hayley Stevens

July 27, 2020

This week, we dive into the world of the paranormal with my guest, Hayley Stevens.

Hayley is best known for her award winning blog, Hayley Is A Ghost which looks into a variety of topics and alleged aspects of the paranormal.

Hayley brings a refreshing critical thinking to the paranormal field with her balanced approach to her investigations into the paranormal and other fortean fields. We discuss how her interest in the world of the paranormal came about and how she fell out of love with it.

We discuss the Winchester case, Britain's Sexiest Ghost, The Ghost of Clevendon Pier and the Infamous McKenzie Poltergeist. We also cover the hilarious moment in Most Haunted's history when Derek Acorah became "possessed"by the ghost of one of Dick Turpin's lovers which you can see here!

All the cases are linked below for you:

Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 77 Stan Gordon

Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 77 Stan Gordon

July 20, 2020

My guest this week needs very little introduction, with over 60 years of experience investigating unusual phenomenan since he was a child.

Stan Gordon has become synominis with the Kecksburg incident of 1965, when witnesses claimed something fell to earth and was recovered by the US Army under the cover of darkness. It has become one of the most notorious UFO incidents in modern history. What really happened on that December night is still not clear and many witnesses point to a cover up at the highest levels.

He was also involved in the unusual events often called The Invasion of Chestnut Ridge over 1973 and 1974 when a number of strange Bigfoot type creatures were seen by several witnesses along with some frankly terrifying first hand experiences.

Stan takes us through both cases along side some more recent events and his career and we may question our understanding of both Ufology and Cryptozoology after listening to him.

Stan's website is here:

His books are available via Amazon here.

Thank you to Stan for joining us today!

Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 76 Lyle Blackburn

Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 76 Lyle Blackburn

July 13, 2020

It's time for another warm welcome back for another listener favourite, Lyle Blackburn to discuss his brilliant new book, Sinister Swamps: Monsters and Mysteries of the Mire.

Lyle mentioned his book when we spoke, back on Episode 49, so I had eagerly been awaiting a chance to get hold of a copy of it as soon as it was released. Lyle has built a reputation as a fantastic author and for me, this is another outstanding piece of work.

We dive into three of the chapters and the creepy tales included in these three particular portions will give you the shivers! We've Dogmen, Bigfoot, the Pukwudgie, UFO's, Skunk Apes, the Honey Island Swamp Monster and much more.

You can keep up to date with Lyle's work here:

His latest book is available here:

Ghoultown, Lyle's band can be found here:

Thank you as always for joining me Lyle.

Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 75 Linda Godfrey

Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 75 Linda Godfrey

July 6, 2020

It's a warm welcome back to one of my most popular guests, the first lady of Cryptozoology, Linda Godfrey!

Linda first appeared on Episode 31 (which you can listen to here if you missed it!) and that show still gets regular downloads, so there is no doubting Linda's popularity with yourselves.

Linda has just released her own film "Return to Wildcat Mountain" which won an award in its first film festival showing, and is being prepped for a Prime release later this summer. We discuss the film, the phenomena behind it and the witnesses involved in the documentary.

It is a cracking film and a well deserved award winner.

We also cover some more stories from her last book, "I Know What I Saw" which is being released in paperback later this summer as well. You can pre-order a copy here:

Linda's blog is here:

Thank you again to Linda for returning to us and we look forward to another chance to speak with her later this year, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 73 Steve Jones

Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 73 Steve Jones

June 29, 2020

This week, I am joined by one of the leading lights in British Paganism, Steve Jones. Steve has been a driving force in the resurgence of Paganism in the Uk over the last 40 years, setting up the longest established Moot, based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Steve has also been investigating hauntings for decades too, so we delve into this too.

We discuss how he became a Pagan, the differences between Paganism and Wicca and we also delve into his investigations into Hooded Entities, Ghosts and those unusual hauntings based in toilets!! We also look at Stone Cirlces and Earth works and more things that go bump in the night.

Unfortunately, we had some audio issues that make us sound like we are under the sea, so apologies for that.

The Wakefield Moot can be found here:

Thanks for joining me Steve!

Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 72 Carl Marshall

Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 72 Carl Marshall

June 22, 2020

Welcome back to Mysteries and Monsters!

On this week's show, I'm joined by Carl Marshall, from the Centre for Fortean Zoology.

Carl is an Entemologist but also has a love of cryptozoology, especially the UK's mystery big cats as well as his passion for Micro-Cryptozoology and his upcoming book covering this criminally neglected niche in the world of Cryptids.

We cover ABC's, including the Beast of Bodmin amongst others as well as diving into the world of arachnids, snakes and some of the tantalising witness accounts of insects we have no record of ever existing.

It's always interesting to cover a subject that we haven't really dove into before and Microcryptids are certainly a subject that we will clearly return to.

Here is Carl's Big Cat facebook group:

The Centre for Fortean Zoology can be found here:

A massive thank you to Carl for joining me today.

Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 71 Gary Cunningham and Rob Cornes

June 15, 2020
This week I am delighted by joined by authors and investigators Gary Cunningham and Rob Cornes to discuss their newly updated book "Irish Aquatic Monsters:A Survey and Definitive Guide".

The book is a must buy for anyone with an interest in Irish Folklore, Lake and Sea Monsters and Cryptozoology and Gary and Rob discuss their reasons for the book, how they came to collaborate with each other and the cases they've dove into
.
We also shine a light on a couple of Cryptozoologists who you may never have heard of!

Ireland may not be the first place you think of for unusual creatures, but the country has a rich history of strange creatures being sighted across the country and Gary and Rob have left no stone unturned in this wonderful book.

The authors have also created mini regional Field Guides, however this volume includes the aquatic mythology of Leinster as well as in-depth chapters covering the usual and unusual suspects; extant animal species which may have helped give rise to these legends in the first place, the dobhar-chu and the water-horse and its origins. Each report location also has geo-spatial co-ordinates which can be viewed on Google maps via the authors Facebook page Irish Aquatic Monsters.

You can join their Facebook group here:

Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 70 Richard Freeman

June 8, 2020

It's a warm welcome back to British Cryptozoologist Richard Freeman!

On this episode, we dive in to the world of giant animals across the world that have been reported by numerous witnesses. We look at cases involving sightings of giant Sharks, giant Lizards, Saltwater Crocodiles, Alligators, Boa Constrictors, Rock Pythons and Anaconda's going back centuries. It seems that plenty of people have seen enormous creatures still hiding out in the corners of the world.

We look at the legendary Gustave, the Nile crocodile who lives in Burundi and one of the most notorious maneaters in the world. Alleged to have killed at least 300, Gustave's reputation is known the world over.

We examine the capture of Lolong and the enigmatic Potol, known as the king of the crocodiles as well as Komodo Dragons and monsterous lizards in the Pacific

We travel the globe looking for giants from several countries, the stories, the legends and wonder if there are still such monsters to be discovered when the evidence suggests that there is a real possiblility there are still wonders to discover.
