Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 119 Charles Christian

It's been a while since we dove into the world of Folklore but when you have an area steeped in unusual legends, mysteries and of course, monsters on your doorstep its hard to resist.

Author and researcher, Charles Christian joins me today to examine the weird and wonderful history of an area known as the Wold Newton Triangle, an area hardly known in the UK, never mind Yorkshire.

The Wold Newton triangle lies between the ancient city of York and the coastal town of Scarborough, with its top edge pointing towards Flamborough Head.

Inside this area we have monoliths and earthworks, the mysterious Gypsey Race river, said to foreshadow great misfortune across the globe, the site of the Wold Cottage meteorite which caused a sensation when it crashed to earth in 1795, the alleged skeleton of a dragon, killed by its greed and of course, its most notorious resident, the tale of Old Stinker, the UK's resident werewolf and a case Charles has investigated thoroughly.

This week I'm joined by author, investigator, filmaker and presenter Jason Hewlett to discuss his career in the world of the paranormal.

Jason has recently released "I Want to Believe" in conjuction with investigator Peter Renn through Beyond The Fray publishing. With a long interest in the paranormal, Jason's journey has taken him via film school and a decade in journalism to being part of the growing Canadian paranormal scene.

Starting off with some personal encounters in childhood, Jason has built his experience through solo investigations of the abandoned Tranquille Sanitorium outside of Kamloops, British Columbia and joining up with the Vancouver Paranormal Society to invesitgate more locations across the state.

With a balanced approach, Jason's experience in both film and print has seen him apply a more methodical approach to the paranormal. We discuss some of his notable investigations, the more notorious hauntings he wants to visit, his video investigation channel as well as what the future holds for both himself and Peter and how the book became a reality thanks to Shannon Legro on Into The Fray.

We also take a detour in to the world of Bigfoot and an unnerving experience that Jason shares with us.

Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 117 The Battersea Poltergeist with Danny Robins

We return to the world of the paranormal this week in the company of writer, presenter and producer, Danny Robins. Danny's latest project is diving into a Poltergeist case that caused national headlines back in the mid 1950s but seemed to have dropped off the paranormal radar until a decade ago.

In January 1956, 63 Whycliffe Road saw the arrival of one of the most active poltergeist cases in British history. Seemingly focusing on 15 year old Shirley Hitchings, the polt turned the lives of the Hitchings family upside down for the best part of decade, finally petering out in 1968.

Danny's wonderful series focuses on the work of the forgotten British parasychologist, Harold Chibbert and his hands on investigation of the disembodied spirit who claimed his name was Donald amongst many other things.

Featuring dramatic recreations with a stellar case including Toby Jones and Dafne Keen amongst others, The Battersea Poltergeist has been a phenomenal success via BBC Sounds.

With Danny hosting the show, we discuss the shows germination, the two experts Ciaran O'Keefe and Evelyn Hollow and how Danny came across the case.

We dive into the world of the poltergeist and wrestle with the concept of just how anyone could have even faked so much of the incredible evidence witnessed over so many years.

June 1977 and two USAF EMT's have decided to spend a weekend camping in the Devil's Den State Park in Arkansas.

What was supposed to be a fun trip for two best friends to take in some wildlife and admire the clear night sky became a terrifying night that changed lives and relationship forever.

On this week's Mysteries and Monsters, I am joined by author and experiencer Terry Lovelace to discuss the events of that night in detail and the physical, personal and emotional ramifications of that incident.

Terry talks us through the build up to the event, the immediate aftermath and the myriad of unusual incidents that took place at both the hospital and his home.

This included strange visitors to his hospital room, mysterious nurses, unusual medication and a complete breakdown in his friendship with Toby, his best friend and companion on that night.

It's a compelling and emotional account and it was a pleasure to speak to Terry about the event and his life afterwards as he has battled to come to terms with what happened to him all those years ago.

On this week's show, I welcome back authors and investigators Chad Lewis and Kevin Lee Nelson, alongside film director Joe Tury to discuss the mysterious case of Murphysboro's Big Muddy Monster.

Joe has recently released a brilliant documentary, entitled Creature From Big Muddy: An Illinois Bigfoot Legend looking at this unusual case. Featuring Chad and Kevin and a host of witnesses and locations, the film delves into the legends and lore of the Big Muddy case.

Our guides lead us on the hunt for this enigmatic cryptid. Whilst the main flap happened from 1972 to 1975, we discover that the Big Muddy Monsters seems to be a cyclical cryptid, especially based on its terrifying re-appearance in 1988!

Welcome back to Mysteries and Monsters!

This week, I am delighted to welcome Stephen Bassett alongside filmaker Darcy Weir to discuss a variety of topics, including Darcy's new documentary Volcanic UFO Mysteries.

The new documentary features some frankly stunning footage captured by the Mexican authorities from their volcano monitoring systems. With interviews with Stephen and Jaime Musson amongst others, the film looks into the numerous sightings of unusual lights in and around volcanoes around the world.

Stephen also discusses the ongoing fight for full UAP disclosure, his hopes for a new raft of congressional hearings and the changing dynamic towards the reality of the UAP phenomenon and how the perceptions have changed since the leaking of the Tic Tac videos and the more besides.

Rather than considering this a "conspiracy", Stephen refers to this situation as a truth embargo, one that has been in place since 1952.

It's a thought provoking conversation which I hope you enjoy.

On this week's show it is a welcome return to Dr Rob Gandy to discuss the mysterious Ruskington Horror in Lincolnshire.

Since this case came to prominence after appearing on ITV's This Morning in 1999, numerous witness have been brave enough to come forward to discuss their strange encounters .

Just what is terrifying motorists in this area of England and what can be causing these shocking encounters.

We look into some of the witness accounts, consider some of the potential explanations as well as touching on some other cases, a curious tale of a Goblin and football curses.

As February draws to a close, I am joined by Canadian psychic Robert Lindsy Milne to discuss his career over the last 6 decades and the journey he has undergone throughout that time.

From starting out realising that perhaps he was tuned into something different at an early agge, Robert's life saw him end up working in the blossoming Toronto psychic circuit in his mid teens as he sought a hot meal and a warm bed above anything else. Avoiding the Canadian Witchcraft Act was an all together more intriguing situation.

Robert discusses his career, the path his life has taken him on, some of his experiences from around the world and how he views his life right now as he enters a period of life that most people would be considering slowing down.

Amanda is the author of 5 books, including the fabulous "Haunted Atlas of Western New York" which is a fantastic guide to the haunted locations of New York state where you can also tantalise your tastebuds as well as getting your spooky on!

Amanda joins me to discuss her latest project, the Feminine Macabre, a collection of essays, articles and investigations by women from around the world in a new bi-annual collection.

The first edition is due to be released in the Spring, so we look forward to seeing it in print. We also discuss how Amanda got in to the paranormal, the other books in her canon as well as the fabulous collection of first-hand accounts of ghostly encounters at a location close to her heart, "The Ghosts of the Ghostlight Theatre" with all proceeds going to the venue's costs in these difficult times.

Mysteries and Monsters: Episode 110 The MacIntosh Stone with Ron Radamacher

Welcome back to Mysteries and Monsters.

After diving into the world of monsters last week, we delve into a mysterious item found upon the shores of Michigan's Upper Penisula. Known as the MacIntosh stone, this small, etched stone was discovered simply laying on ground, waiting to be rediscovered.

On it are some strange and unusual symbols that have caused consternation, confusion and more questions. What are the symbols? Are they an unknown form of Native American writing, a simply clever hoax or proof that European settlers arrived in the America's far longer than the narative suggests?

We know the Vikings made it to Nova Scotia, so is it such a stretch to imagine they pushed further down into the Great Lakes area from this settlement.

To discuss this enigmatic mystery is Ron Radamcher, a man with a love of Michigan and a thirst for adventure and mystery. We discuss the history of the MacIntosh stone, the theories put forward to explain it and the other mysterious clues the area shows us that suggest that maybe what we know isn't all that.
